MONEY SKILLS ACQUISITION CURRICULUM
Boom Card deck designed for this program
The Money Skills Boom Card Decks are introduced in sequential order, beginning with pennies. Each deck builds upon the skills previously introduced. The coins and bills are photos of actual money with front and back sides used randomly to simulate actual use. Using least amount of coins is taught in order for student to learn functional coin use - for example - not just using dimes to pay for everything if they know how to count by10’s.
Each deck has an initial screen with coin values and sample counting of the new skill. This is followed by cards that contain a written money amount in the corner with all of the coin/dollar choices on the left. Drag and drop is then used to move the coins and bills to make the requested amount.
Students are able to independently practice money skills in an effective teaching order with limitless feedback. The Boom Card format provides errorless learning by removing incorrect responses after answer is submitted and giving multiple opportunities to choose the correct response.
Progress is monitored with reports of use and performance updated weekly and available to parents and activities are updated during the month based appropriately on performance. Review decks are also assigned to help maintain skills once mastered.
